The commission for the Weldon Oval Sports Club renovation was preceded by a five year fund raising exercise with grants from the AFL, Cricket Australia, and the local council, and proceeds from the sales of over 1000 lamingtons. The building is sturdy at ground level with the clubhouse facilities elevated over the existing grand stand. The compliance and access upgrades were housed behind a staircase wall and foyer that aligned the building with the entry road providing a new street presence for the Clubhouse. The club room’s interior offers a full view of the oval from the function room and bar facilities through an expansive glass facade. All these spaces are shaded by an engineered cantilever roof that covers both home and away teams.
